Standing in a really long line at the convention center, one has time to stare at the floor, to look at the people around you -- and if you're smart, to gaze at the ceiling, with its pretty rows and rows of fluorescent-delimited boxes. If each box were to hold a whale (well, more realistically, a porpoise) that would be a serious number of cetaceans floating overhead.
